The Leopold Bachmann Foundation supports programmes implemented by selected partner organizations that advance the Foundation’s mission as well as the objectives of its thematic focus areas.

What We Support

  • Applications are only considered if they address the Leopold Bachmann Foundation’s thematic focus areas and are implemented in one or more of its focus countries.
  • Applications are only considered if the organization already has solid experience in the country of implementation and has successfully carried out projects there.
  • The Leopold Bachmann Foundation covers a maximum of 60% of the total project budget.
  • Projects must not have been running for more than six months at the time of application.
  • For new partnerships, the maximum project duration is two years (with the exception of the “Agroecology International” portfolio, for which a duration of up to three years is possible).
  • The applying organization shares our values.

We support organizations that:

  • are legally recognized and well established (operating for at least three years),
  • are well rooted locally and active at regional, national, and/or international levels,
  • have a stable organizational structure,
  • strive for transparency and are able to provide interim reports as well as detailed annual reports,
  • aim to measure their impact on target groups and their environment in order to continuously reflect on and improve their approach,
  • are capable of and committed to participating in joint learning, networking, and development to maximize impact.

It is possible for the applying organization to also be the implementing organization.

If the applying organization is not identical with the implementing organization:

  • The Leopold Bachmann Foundation does not support new applicants proposing projects with new implementing organizations.
  • However, the foundation does support initiatives where existing project partners submit a new project with a new implementing organization.

As we receive a large number of applications, we have defined clear exclusion criteria for what we do NOT fund.

  • Individuals
  • One-off measures
  • Budget deficits and/or ongoing operational costs
  • Emergency relief
  • Pure infrastructure projects
